Your new Ford vehicle may have a safety feature called Ford MyKey®. This technology enables you to program a certain key with restricted driving parameters for security reasons. Using a valet and teaching younger drivers valuable skills on the road work well with this feature.
Driving Modes and Accessories
MyKey® comes with a variety of driving modes. Belt-Minder® keeps the radio muted until front seat occupants are buckled up and provides a six-second reminder chime every 30 seconds until this happens. Parents can also program a top speed limit at 65, 70, 75, or 80 mph.
If parents are concerned about certain radio content, they can block all Sirius Satellite Radio stations that are labeled as “explicit.” MyKey® also gives early low-fuel warnings at 75 miles to empty instead of the standard warning at 50 miles to empty.
How to Program
Programming MyKey® is simple. Put the relevant key in the vehicle ignition and then follow the prompts on the message center. Choose the preferred driving modes. Whenever that key is used, those settings will automatically activate.
Additional options for MyKey include limiting the audio volume to 44 percent, ensuring driving aids like cross-traffic alert cannot be turned off, and keeping the AdvanceTrac® setting activated.
